REDCAR PHOTOS - Please allow page to load.
The photos below are testament to a lazy, uncaring, shortsighted Council. They also show that there are SOME, lazy, bone idle residents and shopowners alike, that blight Redcar as a clean tidy town.
I have picked the worst of what I believe to be areas around Redcar Town Centre that would, if renovated or repaired, have a huge impact on the overall appearance of the town.
YOU may have other ideas. If you have let me know.

This is the first view of Redcar that you will see on entering Redcar Highstreet from Marske direction. Note the plain, dirty-looking blank wall that greets you as you pass by. The small walled garden area, not long built, already forgotton. Take a look yourself.
Askeys Cycle Shop - A nice friendly place to shop but a lick of paint, new windows and the removal of the old, tatty boards blocking the upstairs windows would help to brighten up the frontage above this shop.
A view across the road from Redcar Bus Station - The corner house, badly in need of renovation, also the Kebab Shop opposite, with peeling paint. Both of these properties occupy positions where they make a huge impact on passers-by. These are buildings in our town centre. YES, OUR TOWN CENTRE! Is there such little pride left in the town that this is the way that we present it for all to see?
Look at the two properties to the right of the gaudy Kudos Nightclub. Drab frontages, low cost signs, in total need of a lick of paint and a good lick of committment. Does it cost so much that places such as this can be left to spoil the town's image?

BUILDINGS OK NOW
The 'North East Estate Agent'. A prominent position in the centre of town. Look at the area above the shop. Total neglect, decay, decline. Who cares, when the Estate Agent is probably paying the rent on the property? Think about it, just how much would this cost to repair and maintain? I'm sure the owner could afford it.
Silks Night Club? Does this place look at all inviting? Teenagers flock to this place on Club nights. Again, would it be too much for the owners to have some pride in their premises and a committment to the townsfolk? How about some of the profits being ploughed back into renovation to show that profit at whatever cost, does not have to be at the detriment of the town.
Sea-front properties at the Coatham end of town. Visitors entering Redcar from the West see these buildings first!! Can you imagine such prominent properties in southern seaside towns being left in such a state of disrepair? It wouldn't happen there, they know the 'tourism value' of maintaining thier towns
The property next to Silks is also an eyesore. We see this every day and accept it as normal for our town! This property occupies a prime position on the sea-front. Write to your Council to get these eyesores bull-dozed or tidied up.
Who owns the building above Caroline's Pantry - Hardly inviting! An awful, shabby example of another property in the CENTRE of town. What do you think of the exterior finishing ABOVE the shop, smart eh? YUK! Should a property that occupies such a prime position be allowed to present itself in this way? Maybe the owner thinks the NO ENTRY sign on the street applies to the decoraters!
Las Vegas amusement arcade. It's been there for over 30 years. Hitler's Bunker probably looked more inviting! I suppose the takings are not enough (HAHA) to renovate above the property frontage. I wonder if the owners know there is such a thing as a tin of paint!
Leo's Fun Pub. The sign now replaced. Hopefully further improvement will follow although the place does now look better.
Sharky's Bar. Building now repainted.
A council-owned store(?) near Redcar town clock. Built by the council, left in ruin by the council. R.I.P little building - you have been forgotten. Believe it or not, the view shown is the BEST side of this structure.
The bus shelter near the town clock. When first built, it was put up the wrong way round! Dug up again and now facing the right way, it is a monument to graffiti. C'mon Council, clean up our town centre!
The Stray Cafe - The first commercial building seen as you enter Redcar from Marske direction. Again there is no vision, no insight and no forethought. This place does nothing for Redcar. Why not draw up plans to renovate it and consider turning it into a restauarant overlooking the sea? Imagine the view! People WOULD use it - there are very few good eating-places in Redcar. Are we blind to the opportunities or is the Council just set in it's ways, blinkered by its own non-existent commitment to Redcar's townsfolk?

As far as maintaining appearances around the town, it is also fair to say that the Council cannot be responsible for everything. Look at the grass verges here. THEY SHOULD BE GREEN - NOT LOOK LIKE THE SAHARA DESERT! Lots of local residents constantly erode thier own grass verges away by constantly parking on them. Would it not seem logical that they should be responsible for resoiling and regrassing these areas. Pretty soon, as in other areas on various estates, the Council will 'Tarmac' over these verges. The areas then lose character, the area becomes run down, and all because we have residents who basically DON'T GIVE A DAMN! Grass seed costs about £1-20 a kilo! MAKING A DIFFERENCE CAN SOMETIMES BE VERY CHEAP AND ALSO QUITE SIMPLE.
To everyone who reads the pages on this website: It does not always need vast amounts of cash spent to make places and buildings accepable. Sometimes, maybe a new coat of paint is all that's needed. As it says opposite, buy some grass seed. Possibly repair your own fence. Clean up your own mess. Don't drop litter. Don't empty your car ashtray onto the streets - do it at home. Basically, give a little thought to your property, your boundaries, IN THE MAIN, generally present and nurture a sense of pride in your locale and it's surroundings. THANK YOU.
Many Redcar residents will also have noticed that the local bus companies must also take responsibility for wrecking grass verges. They squeeze past parked cars, mounting the verges, time and time again. If the roads are TOO NARROW on certain bus routes - WOULD IT NOT BE BETTER TO RE-ROUTE THESE VEHICLES OR PROVIDE SMALLER BUSES ON THESE ROUTES
