Some solutions to the Decay

In Redcar we have had too little done for too long. Redcar residents jump at the prospect of being handed down the crumbs of the Councils offerings.
We need much more than crumbs, lets accept nothing less than the full cake.

In the town centre, why not REFACE all of the major buildings. It's been done on numerous council houses in Redcar with excellent effect. These council houses would easily pass for quite well to do private residences.

Let's also make each individual shopowner TOTALLY responsible for their own frontage. By this I mean tidying up any litter or other rubbish discarded outside of thier premises. Maybe this would encourage ALL SHOPOWNERS to stop the litter droppers with a word of warning and make them aware that they are being watched by everyone.

The shopowners should also be made to present and maintain the exterior decor of the premises in a manner which fits into the ambience and theme of the highstreet.

This would need to be policed by the council and ACTIVELY ENFORCED. It also needs to be carried out on a REGULAR basis to maintain a HIGH ongoing standard.

Wardens should patrol the town centre, they should be highly visable for maximum effect and have the ability to enforce fines on litter offenders. They should be monitered for thier effectiveness to enforce cleanliness and order in the town centre.

IF THE COUNCIL HAS THE WILL TO SMARTEN UP REDCAR - THEN THE WAY CAN DEFINITELY BE FOUND.

WE, AS RESIDENTS OF REDCAR SHOULD ACCEPT NOTHING LESS.

Top left and bottom right photos are refaced buildings. This photo shows the transformation that can EASILY BE ACHIEVED by refacing existing properties.

The original building stays intact but is 'skinned' with an outer layer of bricks.

The result can be seen here.

The quad photo above shows the enormous effect that 'REFACING' can have on a property.
Imagine doing this in the centre of town.

The impact of this facelift would result in a total transformation of the town centre but the most amazing fact is that we could have
ANY THEME OR STYLE OF BUILDING THAT WE WISHED.
This is the view that greets you as you enter Granville Terrace going toward town.
Will the Council EVER get it right?

YES WE NEED BINS BUT:

Do they have to look like this, especially on approach roads into town. These wheely bins are now bolted down so it would appear they are going to be a permanent fixture.
These bins have a place in some back alley out of public sight.
What happened to the 'Dolphin bins', at least they were disguised and aesthetically pleasing.

The litterbins above follow the normal blinkered, unthinking, easy fix solution to a problem.
They are commonplace the whole length of the seafront area now, chained to the railings.
Do the Councillors REALLY BELIEVE that this looks, or is, remotely acceptable.

Should they EVER TAKE THE TIME to really give the town a critical view, they might change thier minds.

REMEMBER YOU HAVE A VOTE THAT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
This is OBVIOUSLY the type of thing that Redcar needs. MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL BE GRATEFUL.

We may not have a smart town, or even a decent cinema. We may not have good amenities for the youth of the town.
We put up with shabby amenities, run down play areas, hardly any family recreational areas, dirty streets and slipshod adhoc investment.

We're also priveleged in being noted for paying the 2nd highest Council Tax in the country.

We could be forgiven into thinking that the council doesn't care at all but look on the bright side...

...we have a statue. Doesn't this help. Do you feel that your Council Tax has been well spent after all.

The Statue greets you (just before you round the corner and see the wheeybins)and you should be eternally grateful. Some towns don't have a statue, we are very lucky.

Maybe we should vote the same Councillors back in again - who knows, we may end up with another statue although the price will be up to about £75,000 next time!

SEE THE LETTER FROM A DISTANT FRIEND PAGE AND READ HIS THOUGHTS ON THE INSCRIPION THAT HE BELIEVES SHOULD BE ON THE STATUE.

Are we so gullible and easily pleased in Redcar?
We want more than this!
